Directed by Soi Cheang, the crime thriller SPL II stars Jing Wu, Tony Jaa, Jin Zhang, Simon Yam, and Louis Koo will meet with movie fans in the 11th Chinese American Film Festival. It is an opportunity for movie and martial arts fans to enjoy the most recent production of the dream team of martial arts movie. The movie was released on June 18, 2015 and earned a total of $557 million in box office.
“The battle of a decade, death is in the air!” This eye-catching slogan causes a blood boiling reaction from the audience. SPL II is indeed a highly ornamental HK movie. In this work, the long-lost spirit and atmosphere of the HK martial arts movie has been revived. The brotherhood of man and the digging into the societal issues are especially fascinating. Compared with SPL, SPL II is having a close look at the so called justice and humanity through two parallel story lines and the fates of 6 characters. There is tension between those characters from the beginning. As the story goes, the relationships of those closely linked protagonists are also changing, leading to a reconciliation in the end.
Director Soi Cheang is very sophisticated in making a movie with entangled and unpredictable characters and hard core fighting scenes. In SPL II, he did pull out his full efforts. The biggest selling point of SPL II is its martial arts. In order to differentiate itself from the first episode, SPL II sticks to more traditional style of fighting. It does not mean that the fighting scenes lack tension and passion, rather the scenes are realistic and powerful. With an exciting fusion of modern special effects, the traditional style martial arts scenes are blood boiling.
A warning to all the fans that are going to watch the movie during the CAFF, please watch out for a 4-minute-long pure fighting scene that will fire up the cinema. Wolfy Jing Wu, arrogant Tony Jaa, and insanely confident Jin Zhang have the chemicals that will fire up this crazy action movie. All the male audiences will be engaged by the unbelievable fighting, and all the female audiences will be fascinated by the captivating looks of all three stars. It is a rare opportunity to see the best Asian action stars, Jin Wu, Tony Jaa, and Jin Zhang, appear in the same movie. Please come and join us!
